Learn More

We are more than just a school. We are a connected and caring community that puts students first.

A Whole-Child Approach

We believe that academic success begins with strong wellbeing. That’s why we prioritise social and emotional learning through programs like Respectful Relationships, Restorative Practices, and targeted student wellbeing support, including access to a school counsellor and inclusive wellbeing initiatives.

A focus is on helping every child feel safe, valued and ready to learn.

Responsive Explicit Instruction and Continuous Assessment

We use a whole school instructional model – Responsive Explicit Instruction to deliver clear, purposeful teaching across all subjects. In literacy and numeracy, we use the workshop model to deliver short, focused lessons followed by targeted small-group teaching.

Through point-of-need instruction and real-time assessment, we personalise learning so that every child gets what they need, when they need it.

A Place to Belong

We’re known for our welcoming school culture where families feel part of the journey. From our Parent Helper Program to school events, clubs, and our active Fundraising Committee, we believe that strong partnerships between home and school help students succeed.

At the heart of our school are our values: Respect, Persistence, and Kindness.

These values guide our actions and culture every day.

Every child at WNPS is:

  • Known and celebrated
  • Encouraged to grow
  • Supported to thrive

Literacy

Our approach to literacy is built to support every child. We combine clear and purposeful teaching with individual support and plenty of practice so students can grow as confident readers and writers. With strategies that are easy to follow and time to reflect and celebrate progress, our program helps children build the skills they need to succeed in the classroom and beyond.

Numeracy

Our mathematics program is designed to make learning clear, engaging and purposeful. We focus on building strong number fluency, problem solving skills and confidence by connecting maths to real world experiences. Students are encouraged to explore, take risks and share their thinking while teachers provide targeted support to meet individual needs.

Inquiry

The inquiry program sparks curiosity and builds a love of learning. Students ask questions and explore new ideas through science, humanities, health and technology as well as critical and creative thinking. Each term brings fresh opportunities planned with experts and aligned with the Victorian Curriculum. This approach helps children make connections, think deeply and enjoy learning as active participants in their own journey.

Wellbeing

Student wellbeing and inclusion are a priority. We provide individualised support, reasonable adjustments and a caring counselling space where students can share concerns and build confidence. Families needing more ongoing support are guided to services outside the school.

Student Leadership and Voice

Students take on leadership roles that let them organise events, run clubs, support peers and have their voices heard. These opportunities build confidence, teamwork and responsibility while helping every child feel connected and part of our school community.
